A recent study by ContextNext has revealed that the popular sites such as Yahoo, AOL, The New York Times needs a very high number of pageviews in order to stay in the market. The New York Times specifically needs at least 1.3 billion pageviews per month, according to the report. Also the new sites have a chance of survival if they can get 200 million pageviews per month.
According to the Research Director of ContextNext Laura Rich Fine:
Based on our research, the conversation [with advertisers] gets interesting at 200 million page views plus a month, but much more so around 800 million.
